Practice 7: a Descriptive Paragraph

 Brainstorming: Asking Questions

  • How does it make me feel?
It makes me feel sad, because I know it looks like that because of COVID and the restrictions it caused.
  • Is that feeling positive or negative?
Definitely negative, especially because it reminds me of the time I spent confined to my own home.
  • Why does it make me feel like that?
Because it reminds me of the restrictions, how difficult it was to spend so much time inside and how annoying it was when people told me I was lucky to have a dog and be able to go out, because it was awful for my dog, a puppy at the time, to be locked inside all day and repeat the same walks every time we went out.
  • Would it make me feel something different if it didn't look like that?
It might make me feel nostalgic but in a good way if the picture showed Gran Vía how it usually looks: full of life.

Descriptive Paragraph

The photograph of Madrid's empty Gran Vía makes me feel sad because it reminds me of a difficult time in our lives. Sadness does not always have to be a negative feeling, but in this case it is, because I cannot think of anything good related to this picture. When the pandemic started in China, we all thought it would not happen to us, but we were wrong; in March some very serious restrictions were put in place and we stopped being allowed to leave our houses. That picture was probably taken during the confinement, that is why the Gran Via looks so empty; it brings back memories of looking out the window and seeing empty streets, of feeling claustrophobic inside my own home. It was a very difficult time, particularly because I was used to going on long walks with my puppy and he did not understand why we couldn't leave our neighborhood; being inside all day was hell for him. Photographs of empty streets, like this one from Madrid, bring back memories of very trying times.
