Writing Journal 11: The Working Student

 9.03 AM.

If we're talking about being a student while having to work to support yourself I haven't been one completely. I worked when I was in my second year of History, giving teaching kids, but it was more about paying for expenses such as bus fares and clothes, not like I had to pay for University by myself.

It was such a stressing year. I had class from 9AM to 14PM, the bus would arrive at my town at 15.30PM, then I had to eat very fast and, at approximately 16 or 16PM I had to be at the kids home to teach him. I ended up teaching three kids, and the lived very far apart, so I had to walk everywhere in a hurry. Was it rewarding? Yes, it was very nice to help them, and the extra money didn't hurt.

Did it affect my studies? Only in a good way, because the less time I had, the better use I made of it. Would I try again? God, no, I was so stressed! If I had to do it I would plan it differently, no more running around town for me.

Other people have more difficulties. One of my friends had to work during her last year of university because she couldn't afford the fees if she didn't, but working and studying is very complicated, even more if you have some difficulties, as she had. She still hasn't finished her degree, and it's been three or four years already. Where am I going with this? Well, basically, having to work to pay for your studies might mean that you will never finish them, and I think that's pretty sad, because a lot of hard work goes into studying.
