Writing Journal 21: Discrimination

 8.44 AM.

If there's one thing I hate about the world, that is discrimination. I will never understand why people feel the need to discriminate against others because they are different: different sexual orientation, differente skin color, different beliefs... Why does it matter if a guy you don't even know loves a guy? Or if that girl from your neighborhood is black? Does being transgender make someone a bad person? None of that things matter, the only thing that matters is respecting others and treating them as human beings with rights, which is what they actually are. If you don't, then you are a narrow minded bigot.

I've always been taught that being different is not bad at all; diversity makes the world a better place. But lately, it seems like people are becoming less accepting of others who are different to the norm. We're seeing a rise in hate crimes: people who feel they have the right to punch a guy because he's holding hands with another guy (the same happens with lesbians); kids who are bullied because they are transgender; black people being killed by the police (racism in America is just so fucking crazy to me)...

I don't really like to talk about this because it makes me feel like humanity is not becoming better at all. Politic ideas are becoming more extreme, and we're actually seeing fascism rising again, which goes along with discrimination. People will be offended if you tell them they are behaving like a nazi, because they don't even know that they're repeating the same acts. Nothing good comes from discrimination, and I'd love it people realized it, it's easier and better to live and let live.
